Boston Busing Crisis
Growing up, former mayor Flynn in his teenage years played on an integrated city-wide basketball team among other things. You would think growing into a man, he would be for the forced busing but you would have guessed wrong. At the time, the state representative was anti- forced busing as he thought it would lead to a lot of violence and his prediction was correct. You see, he was not against the idea of the school system being interrogated but rather the way it was put into action.
As said by Flynn himself in a Globe article published on September 10th 2014 with the title Ray Flynn, 40 years after Boston busing: 'The children and parents suffered', "You're getting married, you meet the bride's family beforehand, you don't show up the day of the wedding and nobody knows each other." Wise words! There should have been more communication by parents before the forced busing along with with more government funds given to better the school curriculum pointed out Flynn. He has got a point. You do not just put a convicted felon and a wall street executive in the same room and hope for them to be okay with one another. These kids came from different walks of life, having no clue of how to work side by side with a person of a different race-- something they were never exposed to prior. We slowly but surely came into the city we are today.
