As a result of his involvement in political assasinations with the Rossbach, Bormann and fellow-member Rudolf Franz Hoss were arrested in 1923 and on May 15, 1924 they were found guilty and sentenced to one-year in prison. While incarceration, Bormann became further acquainted with Hoss, future lieutenant colonel in the Nazi campaign and longest serving leader of Auschwitz concentration camp.

And upon his release in 1925, Bormann joined the Nazi party, initiating his career in the Nazi Campaign. By 1927, he became Press Chief for the Party Gau of Thuringia and District Leader.
